FLHS SCIENCE DEPARTMENT WIRELESS LAB
GUIDELINES FOR SWL USE

**All SWL users (teachers, students and others) are expected to follow the guidelines as stated below without any exceptions. **Computers are for use in school only, and may not leave the building.**

**Please plan for recharging time for the laptop battery when booking the SWL. The time for recharging should be considered when booking the lab.

Guidelines for Teachers:

  1. Before reserving the SWL for the first time, it is advised that you learn how to operate the laptops. One of the lab technicians help with this. It is CRITICAL that you understand the risks and most likely avenues of “mischief” in which our students may engage.
  2. The SWL should be kept in a prep room under lock-and-key when not in use. Remember to plug both cart power cords into a wall socket!
  3. The SWL must be booked in advance using the SWL calendar, accessible via the website.
  4. Please be sure to complete the Laptop Designation Form before the first use with each class. This is a safety measure to ensure accurate documentation of problems and damage to the machines. Note that the laptops are numbered from 1-20 on both the bottom and on the side (wireless card side), and each number corresponds to a slot in the cart.
  5. Please be consistent with your laptop assignments- the same student should use the same machine every time.
  6. When collecting laptops, teachers are required to check each laptop against their checklist.
  7. As previously mentioned, each laptop has a corresponding slot number. When returning the laptop to the cart the laptop must be placed in the CORRECT slot number in the cart and plugged to its AC adapter.
  8. If any laptop is damaged or found to be faulty during use, this should be reported immediately to a lab technician, who will begin a process to remediate the problem.
  9. Since the laptops run on limited battery power, they should ALWAYS be recharged after use.
  10. Do not leave your class room with the laptops lying around- all laptops need to be returned, checked and secured before leaving the classroom.
